I have known Doug Maskell since my time at Humberview Secondary School, in Bolton, where he served as my Guidance Counsellor and as a constant source of support. Beyond just offering academic advice, Doug was a pivotal role model who helped me navigate some of my most challenging moments. His mentorship and genuine care for my success are exactly what guided me toward my own current goal of becoming a teacher.

What truly sets Doug apart from others is the heart he puts into every community he joins. Whether he was supporting students in the Guidance Office, coaching on the field or now, representing us on Council, his commitment is never just "professional", it is personal. He has an innate ability to make everyone feel heard and valued, showing up for people in ways that go far beyond his job description.

Having seen his dedication firsthand, it is no surprise to see that same passion and integrity reflected in his work in Caledon East and Ward 3. Doug is a leader who leads with empathy, one who is invested in the well-being of the people he represents. I am proud to support his re-election as Ward 3 Councillor and I know he will continue to be a tireless advocate for all of us.

I met Doug Maskell in 2022, shortly after he was elected as Councillor for Ward 3, when we got together for coffee to discuss illegal land uses in Caledon. Over the past four years, I can attest that Doug backs up his words with action. He is committed to his constituents and never shirks responsibility.

Councillor Maskell sits on Caledon's Illegal Land Use Task Force and has worked diligently to address issues and advocate for residents. He has met with Provincial representatives at numerous conferences, meetings and a Parliamentary Standing Committee to address illegal land use and to request greater enforcement powers.

He was the voice who brought to Council a motion to request after hours (weekend, overnight) Municipal Law Enforcement (By-Law) to the Town and to develop approaches to improving Town enforcement procedures.

In addition, Doug advocated for a Dark Sky By-Law that was transformed into light mitigation measures in Caledon's official plan "Future Caledon" and in the Town of Caledon's Green Development Standards.

Councillor Maskell's approach is professional, assertive and responsive. He has earned my vote.

Councillor Doug Maskell has shown great dedication and commitment to the residents of Ward 3, as he worked to champion, both big and small issues, across the community. During the reconstruction of Airport Road, Doug has worked relentlessly to ensure that residents and businesses are informed and have a voice at the table.

Over the past four years, Doug has been a strong advocate for many environmental initiatives such as: Earth Hour, Green Development Standards, Turtle Protections and Bird Friendly City certification.

On issues that impact Caledon, Doug has been a thoughtful and insightful voice on Council. He does not hesitate to ask questions and address important considerations that have led to better Council decisions.

As a Caledon resident I have been frustrated with illegal land uses, particularly illegal commercial event venues operating in my neighborhood and across Caledon. These commercial event venues significantly impact the use and enjoyment of surrounding properties with their excessive noise, traffic safety issues and impacts to the environment. Upon his election in 2022, Councillor Maskell listened to the residents in my area and took positive steps to help the Town combat these illegal land uses. He ensured that by-law enforcement officers are available at night and on weekends so that they can investigate these illegal uses while they are happening and have the necessary evidence to enforce the Town's by-laws. He was also instrumental in bringing forward an Entrance Permit By-law to regulate the installation of entrances on properties and to allow for "illegal" entrances to be removed or blocked.

With Councillor Maskell there is action, no political double speak. He listens, responds, and finds solutions.

I have had the pleasure of knowing Councillor Doug Maskell for many years. I got to know Doug better and appreciate his work ethic after he was elected as Ward 3 Councillor in October 2022. Doug and I have a lot in common as we are both: long-time residents of Caledon, fathers of two daughters and have years of extensive involvement in our community.

My relationship with Doug deepened as we worked together on Caledon's Illegal Land Use Task Force. In the almost two years of the Task Force, Doug has never missed a meeting. In addition, he brings enthusiasm and a breadth of knowledge to all aspects of the Task Force's work and his clear understanding of the structures and policies of the Town of Caledon has been invaluable.

I have lived in Caledon for 51 years and have seen numerous politicians come and go, and Councillor Doug Maskell is truly one of the best. He is hardworking, competent and exceptionally responsive; a decent, honest neighbour who represents Ward 3 with thoughtfulness and determination.

When I brought him my concern: he called me back immediately; he met me in-person; he advised me on possible courses of action; and he explained the relevant policies and legislation.

As a result of his encouragement, I brought my perspective on a Provincial project to Caledon Council, and action was taken. Recently, I was pleased to learn that Doug Maskell will be running for re-election as Councillor for Ward 3 in the Town of Caledon. During Doug's past term as my Council representative, he has been available to answer my questions in a friendly, approachable manner that resulted in finding solutions. He was diligent in keeping us informed through personal contact as issues were resolved.

Most importantly, Doug's commitment to keeping residents informed through emails and newsletters was very much appreciated. I was particularly impressed when Doug came to our street to meet with residents for an on-site meeting to address our concerns regarding traffic safety.

Councillor Doug Maskell was among those from the Town of Caledon who welcomed and encouraged the opening of Caledon Manor & Country Inn, and I have always appreciated his support for our small, local business. His willingness to recognize the importance of tourism, hospitality and community-based enterprise in Caledon meant a great deal to us during our planning and application process and at our official opening in April 2023. I remain genuinely grateful for the role he played in helping us feel welcomed as part of the local business community, and for his continued interest and support

I met Councillor Doug Maskell in April 2023, when he informed me that the land, across from my home on Torbram Road, was now subject to a MZO (Ministerial Zoning Order) that had been requested by former Mayor Alan Thompson, in July 2022, to build 11 warehouses. When Doug learned of this on April 11, 2023, he came to my door the following Saturday to let me, and other affected residents, know what had been done. Throughout the process of understanding what had happened, Doug demonstrated compassion, commitment and leadership as he worked to inform and guide residents through what was unfolding. Based on my interactions with local officials in many jurisdictions, Doug's commitment to assist constituents is something that is rarely seen in a local Councillor.

I would like to sincerely thank Councillor Doug Maskell for the time, guidance and support he provided throughout the process of advocating traffic lights at the intersection of Airport Road and Walker Road in Caledon East. From my perspective, it was a dangerous intersection that many seniors, families and drivers had been worried about for a long time.

When I first brought the issue forward through a local petition, Doug took the time to meet with us, listened to our concerns, and helped us to understand what needed to be done next. His guidance and support throughout the entire process meant a lot to me, especially as it can be intimidating for a young person to speak out on behalf of the community.

With his support, I delegated to Council in support of Councillor Maskell's motion to ask the Region of Peel to install traffic lights at the intersection. It was a unanimous vote by Council to support the motion and the petition. It was subsequently approved by Peel Region Council.

The approval of these traffic lights was incredibly meaningful because it showed that the voices of residents can truly lead to change when there is someone willing to listen, guide and advocate for them. I am very grateful for Councillor Maskell's encouragement, leadership and genuine commitment to making Caledon East a safer place for everyone.

I am pleased to see that Doug is seeking re-election as Councillor for Ward 3 in Caledon. He has been consistently present and engaged with the residents of Ward 3, attending many local events and staying connected to the community. I have also observed his active and insightful participation during Council meetings, where he is regularly in attendance at Council and Committee meetings. It is encouraging to see the thoughtful and steady approach to affairs and issues that Doug brings to Council and Committee meetings.

I met Councillor Doug Maskell in August of 2023 when he came to my home to discuss some issues I was having with a storm water pond in my neighborhood. Later that year, we began serving together on the Caledon East Revitalization Task Force. Doug's impact on the Task Force was immediate as he demonstrated the same energy and drive that he exhibits in all that he does in Ward 3. This is moderated by thoughtful consideration and a care to listen to all views and a strategy to work together to find the best solutions rather than preconceived ones. Doug combines this with an excellent understanding of what is happening at Town Council and the strategic vision for Caledon. Ward 3 needs a Councillor like Doug Maskell, one with deep roots in the community and a commitment to stable, planned growth. In his interactions with residents, he is always polite and personable as he seeks to find resolution to issues and problems. Doug is a leader on Council and a leader in our community.

I had the pleasure of meeting Councillor Doug Maskell several years ago after he responded to me regarding an illegal land use that was happening on a neighboring property. After hearing of my ongoing battle with the issues on this property, he, without hesitation, began investigating my concerns. His commitment to keeping me informed throughout the process and his diligent efforts to get a resolution to the situation, speak volumes about the person he is and the Councillor that this town needs. I am forever grateful for all he has done for me. I have faith that Doug will continue his dedication and involvement in the enrichment of our town.

Doug Maskell was my Grade 12 Economics teacher at Humberview Secondary School, in Bolton, and he remains, to this day, one of my most memorable educators.

Even though it was only for one course, his enthusiasm and engagement made a lasting impression. He had a way of bringing energy to every lesson and it was clear that he genuinely cared about the success and development of his students.

While he was not my assigned Guidance Counsellor, he still took on a mentorship role for me, always approachable, supportive and invested in my progress at school and in life.

Having grown up in Caledon, I know how important it is to have leadership that is both committed to the community and grounded in real relationships. Based on my experience, Councillor Doug Maskell embodies those qualities. I believe he will continue to represent the community with dedication and integrity.

Councillor Maskell was very approachable and accommodating with regards to addressing the concerns we had in Ward 3. He came to our house and listened to our concerns, and then he outlined the steps the Town was already taking to address the issues. He frequently followed up and shared the progress at hand. I have had the privilege of knowing Doug Maskell for a long time as I have observed him in various roles as an educator, community member and Councillor.

In these various roles, he has made a significant impact on everyone around him, especially me. As a teacher and guidance counsellor, he was there for his students, and to this day, I know he keeps in contact to see how they are doing. As a parent, community coach or school team coach, he was on the bench or cheering from the stands or sidelines. During his first term as the Councillor for Ward 3, Doug has been an advocate for the residents of Ward 3 and the people of Caledon to ensure that their needs and concerns are addressed.

In his classroom, Doug encouraged every student to work hard, stay determined, and to never be afraid of asking the tough questions. As I reflect on his time on Council, those qualities that he taught us, are the ones that he displays when interacting with the community or at Council.
