General Committee meetings are usually the first place staff reports, memorandums and councillor motions are introduced and discussed by Council, Town staff and members of the public.

Decisions made at General Committee are reviewed and voted on at Council meetings. As Chair, Doug is responsible for keeping meetings on procedure, moving agendas forward and treating community delegations with respect and flexibility.

This committee works with Town staff and Council to clarify how Region of Peel services such as regional roads, water and wastewater, stormwater and garbage collection will be downloaded to the Town of Caledon.

This committee, composed of the Mayor, two councillors and two resident representatives, recommends changes to the Town's Procedural By-Law. Its work has included requests for a Lobbyist Registry and a Council Attendance tracker.

Doug serves on the Board of Directors of Southwestern Integrated Fibre Technology (SWIFT) as Caledon Council's representative. On this board, he advocates for accessible and affordable broadband service in Caledon.

Doug has worked with members of this volunteer organization to bring environmental concerns forward to Town staff and Council. Eco-Caledon also partnered with the Town to host Earth Hour events in 2025 and 2026.

As one of two councillors on this task force, Doug has worked with Caledon East residents to help design the public square planned for the lands purchased by the Town at Airport Road and Emma Street.

This group brings together residents, by-law officers, Town lawyers, planning staff, and Council members to address illegal truck yards and illegal event centres. Progress has been made on many of these issues, and Doug supports continuing the work in the next term of Council.

Created after Council declared a road safety emergency, this committee has initiated traffic calming measures, requested new regulations for Caledon and Peel Region roads and conducted public information events.

Doug attended and delegated to provincial ministers and opposition leaders at the Association of Municipalities of Ontario conference in Ottawa and the Rural Ontario Municipalities of Ontario conference in Toronto in 2023, 2024, 2025 and 2026.

In 2024, Doug testified before the Province of Ontario's Standing Committee on Heritage, Infrastructure and Cultural Policy to address the impact and scale of illegal land use in the Town of Caledon.

Doug collaborated with Councillor Rosa and Town staff to restart the Town of Caledon's high-school co-operative education program after it was suspended in 2020 due to COVID. Students from Humberview, Mayfield, Robert F. Hall and St. Michael's have since completed placements across Recreation, Parks, Public Works, Energy and Environment, Planning, the Town Clerk's Office and more.

Doug assisted the Town Clerk's Department and the Mayor's Office in establishing a formal forum for young people from Caledon's four high schools to bring their voices to Council on matters that affect youth.

Doug endorsed and supported the Sports Dome from the beginning. The facility will give local youth soccer, rugby, baseball, flag football, cricket and other community groups year-round space in Caledon East. It is anticipated to open in November 2026 with no impact on the tax rate.
